Adobe Express: Getting Started
As an Adobe employee, I used this service, and I didn’t need a Creative Cloud account or a monthly subscription to do so. There is one exception to this, though, which I’ll talk about later. I only had to use my Above ID, Google, Facebook, or Apple account to log in. I could also use my email address if I wanted to. There was a separate way for teachers and students to log in. After logging in, I was asked to choose an answer about what I wanted to use Creative Cloud Express for and how much design experience I had.
After that, I was good to go. The design process was based on templates that were made to fit different needs, like an Instagram story or post, a YouTube thumbnail, a flyer, or even a resume or menu. When I clicked on “show all,” I could see all the categories and how many templates were in each one.
It was really impressive how many choices there were. I saw that free and paid samples were mixed up, but a handy filter option made it easy to tell them apart. I could start from scratch if I wanted to, but using a template often made the process go faster. I was able to save my own templates as I learned how to use this service better.

Your editing space is well-organized: on the left are the same templates you explored earlier, text tools, Adobe Stock photos, thousands of black and white icons, backgrounds, etc., and on the right are pre-defined color palettes, tools to animate your design, layouts, and design options. An ‘edit image’ sidebar appears on the right when you click on an object on your canvas. A cool feature is automatically removing the photo’s background. It most often works, but not always.
You can also change the item’s opacity, crop it, mask it with a shape, or apply effects like blur, color filters, and image enhancements. That sidebar displays text editing tools when you select a text field. It doesn’t have all the features of more advanced Adobe services or software, but it can help you design nice projects quickly. Layer-based editing makes it easy to overlap and move objects. In the lower right corner of your canvas, you can see all your layers stacked. Simply select one and drag it above or below another in a visual and effective manner. It looks great, but that ‘free’ label has a catch.
Free In The Sense Of
The catch is that you can’t use all of the features. You could tell the difference between the paid and free samples when you were looking through the templates, so that was a hint. But this is more than that. If you play around with the automatic background remover, you might notice that, as we already said, it’s not perfect. To get the results just right, you can use tools to add or remove areas, but those are considered “premium” features.
Moving a project around is another cool feature that is only available in the premium area. Adobe means being able to change the size of your project automatically so it fits where it’s going to be shared. For example, if you were working on an Instagram Story, all of your objects would be moved around to fit a Facebook post with the click of a button.
This is a great feature that saves time, but it costs something. If you see a small golden crown icon on a tool, object, shape, photo, or other thing, it means that it is a premium item. Premium is a paid service that costs $10 a month or $100 a year but is paid for ahead of time. Even though those extra tools can be helpful, you can still design something with the free stuff without using those extra tools. It would take a little longer, and you wouldn’t be able to use some of the nicer templates, photos, and objects.

If you need more help, you can talk to a real person on the phone or computer from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday through Friday. The people who worked there were quick and helpful when we had questions during our evaluation. You could also post your questions in Adobe’s forum and get answers from other users in the community. Overall, we were very happy with Adobe’s support, both with how quickly they responded and how well they answered our questions.
Pros and Cons
Adobe Express is what I use to make simple graphics or when I’m out and about. It took the place of Canva in my workflow because it had more high-quality stock images, better fonts, and a better AI image generator. In the next two years, I think Adobe Express will be more popular than Canva.

Adobe Express didn’t live up to our (admittedly high) expectations, which was a shame. Templates, graphics, animations, and how easy it is to use on the platform won’t meet the needs of professional designers and marketers. People who need to design something, write a post, or finish a school assignment quickly might like what the program has to offer. One of the best things about it is that it has great support.
