Check How to Fix ‘BCDEdit in Windows 11 PC’ Issue

BCD or also known as Boot Configuration Data contains boot configuration parameters to start Windows. If the configuration file becomes corrupted, you must rebuild the BCD or boot configuration data file. When BCD gets corrupted, it usually leads to Windows 11/10 not booting situations. In earlier versions of Windows, boot information was stored in the Boot.ini file.

On EFI-based operating systems, you can find the entry in the EFI Firmware Boot Manager located at: EFIMicrosoftBootBootmgfw.efi.BCD or Boot Configuration Data is a base file firmware-independent data available at boot time -Configuration data. It is required by Windows Boot Manager and replaces the boot.ini previously used by NTLDR.

Fix: Windows 11 won’t boot

Inside the boot we find the BCD (Boot Configuration Data), which is nothing more than a database independent of the firmware where the Windows boot configuration is found. When we get a startup error, we get stuck on startup but that is why GizPie has the solution to fix this error in Windows 11.

Windows 11 Startup Repair

  • First of all, connect the DVD or USB to PC and boot Windows 11 from the ISO image.
  • Now you need to click Next to see the following window. Click “Repair Computer”.
  • We will see a series of management options under Windows 11 Advanced Options.
  • Select the “Troubleshoot” option, and then click “Command Prompt.”
  • The CMD console will open in a special administration mode.
  • Run “diskpart”, which is the Windows 11 disk and partition management utility.
  • After this, select the current disk with the command: sel disk 0
  • Once selected, list the current volumes with the command: list vol
  • We can see different volumes depending on how the hard drive is partitioned in Windows 11, there we are going to select the volume where the Windows 11 boot is located, for this we will use the command: select volume #
  • Once selected we will assign a letter to the unit, for this we will execute: assign letter = “letter”
  • Quit Diskpart with “exit”.
  • Now go to the drive where the bootloader is and list the contents with “dir”.
  • Rebuild Windows 11 boot by running: bcdboot C:Windows /l en-us /sv: /f all
  • Execute “exit” to exit the console, and then shut down the computer.
  • Remove the media where the Windows 11 ISO is and turn on the computer.

Retrieve bootloader startup with commands

As an alternative method, it is possible to use bcdedit to repair Windows 11 startup, bcdedit is a command line tool that allows you to manage BCD stores, this utility is limited to standard data types and allows you to make changes to BCD.

  • To make use of this option, access CMD as administrators and there execute:
  • There it is possible to perform tasks such as:
  • To backup and restore the system boot configuration, we will use the commands:
    • bcdedit/export C:file.txt
    • bcdedit/import C:file.txt
  • To enable advanced boot options in Windows 11, run:
    • bcdedit /set {global settings} advanced options true
  • To enable Kernel edition, run:
    • bcdedit /set {globalsettings} optionsedit true
  • In case we want to repair Windows 11 boot configuration data, we will use the following commands in their order:
    • bcdedit / store :bootbcd /set {bootmgr} device partition= :
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {bootmgr} integrity services enabled
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {} device partition = :
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {} integrity services enabled
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {} recovery enabled Off
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {} osdevice partition = :
    • bcdedit/store
    • :bootbcd /set {} bootstatuspolicy IgnoreAllFailures
