Logitech StreamCam review

The Logitech StreamCam is a great webcam, and for content creators who don't yet have their own camera, it can also do a good job of capturing footage for a YouTube channel. But Logitech can't deliver the "ultimate experience for streamers" that this camera promises.

The C922 (also known as the webcam you see in every conference room) and the 4K-capable Brio are two examples of Logitech’s top webcams, which are frequently in competition with one another for the title. The Logitech StreamCam aims to bridge the gap between the two with excellent picture quality and ease of use for a range of streams.

The StreamCam was made specifically for streamers and other content producers you probably guessed it to the point where you can rotate it on its three-axis clip for portrait mode if you want your material to be more mobile-friendly. Or keep it horizontal. Whatever option you select, the mount can readily oriented face-down up to 90 degrees if you want people to see your mouse and keyboard motions or your playing an instrument with your fingers.

There is no need for additional equipment, but the StremCam does have a second mount that can be screwed onto a tripod for more intricate setups. Additionally, it captures video in full 1080p at 60 frames per second. That’s superior to the three-year-old Logitech C922 webcam’s 1080p/30fps, which has become a mainstay in many streamers’ toolkits due to its affordable $80 price. Additionally, it supports popular streaming programs like OBS and XSplit.

Logitech StreamCam review: Design

The StreamCam not only takes excellent video, but it also looks better than other webcams. Unlike most PC cameras, which are just a generic piece of black plastic, the StreamCam has a stylish mesh-woven design that is available in both charcoal and white. After testing both versions, I discovered that they both enhanced rather than simply served as a backdrop for my work environment. Although it is undoubtedly bigger than, say, a Logitech C920, its warm, lifestyle-focused design stands out in a positive way.

The StreamCam’s striking appearance isn’t just for show either; it’s the first webcam of its kind that support both horizontal and vertical video capture. The StreamCam will automatically change its shooting mode when you just remove the camera from its mount, rotate it, and then snap it back in. The StreamCam in vertical mode looks ideal for TikTok and Instagram creators who want to record phone-friendly video while utilizing the more advanced editing capabilities of their computer, but I must admit that I haven’t used it much.

Logitech StreamCam review: Video and Audio Quality

One of Logitech’s priciest cameras is the StreamCam. But you get what you pay for, and 1080p/60fps video quality is excellent. The colors are vivid and accurate. In comparison to the low-cost Logitech C270 HD webcam, the quality and color vibrancy are on par with those of the Logitech Brio.

On my MacBook Pro, I put the Logitech StreamCam to the test. A video with a 1080p/60fps resolution is of the highest caliber. The colors are vivid and true to life, and there are no jerky movements. This is the degree of video quality you need on a camera if you’re streaming.

(The StreamCam supports frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60fps in addition to 1080p/60fps and other resolutions of 720p and 360p.) The StreamCam also combines facial tracking with AI to ensure intelligent auto-focus and exposure. The webcam successfully followed my face through a variety of movements as a consequence. The webcam’s lighting was changed by auto exposure when I tipped the laptop sideways to match my surroundings. While mounted, the StreamCam may be effortlessly adjusted to switch from landscape to portrait orientation. Image stabilization, which prevents the camera from shaking if you bump it, is another useful function.

Logitech StreamCam review: Performance

You’ll need a machine that can handle recording 1080p60 video, especially while several programs are going. According to Logitech’s system requirements, my Samsung Notebook 7 Spin laptop’s eighth-generation Intel Core i5 CPU and 8GB of RAM are more than adequate. However, because it only has integrated GPUs, video capturing at 1080p60 with Logitech Capture and OBS open slowed down.

When these performance problems first appeared, Logitech Capture alerted me with an on-screen notification. I was able to record at that resolution and frame rate without any problems with my basic laptop after switching to 720p60. Additionally, with OBS closed and Logitech Capture running independently, I obtained steady 1080p60 video. Make sure you have the necessary gear if you intend to capture your recordings and streams in great detail.

Logitech StreamCam review: Price and Release Data

With a release date of 11 February 2020, the Logitech StreamCam is a relatively new addition to Logitech’s webcam lineup. Only the Logitech Brio Stream and Logitech Brio Ultra HD Pro Business Webcam are more expensive than the Logitech StreamCam, which, at £139, is at the upper end of the market and of Logitech’s own webcam line. If you decide to purchase a StreamCam, you shouldn’t have to pay the entire amount because we’ve noticed the StreamCam’s price drop slightly from that RRP at merchants like Amazon. To find a bargain, browse our Logitech promo codes as well.

When you can find one, which has been tough recently due to the unexpected increase in remote working driving demand for high quality cameras to surge, the Logitech StreamCam will cost you $170 (£139, AU$279). Even the best cameras cost more than this, but Logitech isn’t exactly targeting the average office worker when advertising this product. It competes with other streaming industry models like the perennially well-liked C920, another Logitech product that has long served as the dependable (and more affordable) go-to for anyone in need of a high-quality webcam for streaming, so the high price might turn people away as soon as they load the page to make a purchase.

Conclusion

Professional content producers (and gamers) will value the superb video quality, high resolution, and clever auto focus capabilities. The program offers even more functionality and customizability choices, and the webcam can be mounted on a laptop, display, or tripod. Additionally, the omnidirectional mic eliminates background noise to produce crystal-clear audio.

The only drawback we can identify with the Logitech StreamCam is possibly its cost. It stands high on our list of the top Logitech cameras because of this. However, the Razer Kiyo is about $100 less expensive, offers a video resolution of 1080p/30fps, and comes with a ring light if you’re searching for more affordable options. Another choice is the Logitech C920, which features a 1080p/30fps frame rate and is also $100 less expensive.
